as permanent structures. In IFEX’s cluttered hard sell trade show environment, our bold minimalist
solution reintroduced the Sunbrella brand to regional markets
Exterior structure, shades of black, constructed from premium Sunbrella fabrics. Interior bright bold and geometric design language confidentially communicate Sunbrella’s awareness of trend. The application of materials blurs the line between interior and exterior environments, highlighting potential stretch for Sunbrella application

Singapore Indesign targets architects, interior designers, specifiers and industry professionals. Local showrooms work with creatives to develop ‘creative collaborations’ – typically an abstract use of product. Sunbrella invited Lucas to develop a solution for a shared a warehouse space located in the design district ’72-13′ Mohamed Sultan Road, Singapore.
Spectrum’ was a 3D expression of regional colour trends. The design solution generated, discussion and debate within the local creative community. Influential local architect, interior decorators, designers were invited to the space to share their opinions on colour. The event was supported by social and video documenting the event.

From bale, to yarn, to fabric, Sunbrella control the entire production process. Their approach delivers quality and creates an environment where artisans and industry can meet.
In order to differentiate Sunbrella, the space highlighted process and celebrated material. Structures were a fusion between an industrial forms and contemporary art installations. Our design solution blurred the line between art and industry. The project was a truly international collaboration – Sunbrella is based in North Carolina, Lucas developed the design from Melbourne and the build was managed from Singapore. The Sunbrella space was nominated for ‘best of show’ in Jakarta.
The design system was rolled out across North America and Europe.

The Outago collection was created to go where no lighting & audio technology has gone before. Designed in Melbourne in collaboration with Sunbrella U.S. Made smart by Google Home
The International Style
Sunbrella is the fabric of choice for specifiers and consumers globally. The fabric has been widely adopted for shade structures, marine canvas and upholstery fabric for both outdoor and indoor applications. IFEX (Indonesia Furniture Expo) promotes Indonesian products to international and local buyers.
Lucas was asked to develop a design solution that highlighted the diverse range of material applications for Sunbrella. Our structure in Jakarta blurred the lines between indoor and outdoor architectural forms. For the second year in a row, Sunbrella was awarded best of show (medium size), Indonesia Furniture Expo 2018. The IFEX design solution was an extension of the international design language Lucas developed for locations around the world.

Sunbrella Spaces
The International Furniture Fair Singapore, held in conjunction with the ASEAN Furniture Show (IFFS/AFS) and The Décor Show is Asia’s premier sourcing platform and design-led exhibition. The event was established in 1981. Singapore is a regional hub for global companies. Sunbrella approached Lucas to create a space that would inspire architectural and designer audiences.
Our solution was an abstract installation designed to evoke conversation about ‘space’ and the use of fabric in architectural environments. The concept referenced Sunbrella’s new focus on interior applications of the product.
